This year, we decided to strip Christmas back to what it’s truly about; friendship, safety, community, and looking out for one another. On Wednesday 13th December, we did just that by organising a delicious curry and chocolate feast for 85 children from the most deprived areas of Swansea.
The community has always been close to our hearts, and we know just how tough it can be for some at this time of year. We knew about the amazing work that Faith in Families were doing around Swansea, especially when it came to supporting vulnerable children, so we approached them and asked if there was anything we could do to help.
Fast forward a few weeks, and we were loading up our iconic Tuk-tuk with 85 takeaways for children who really needed an extra sprinkle of Christmas magic. We travelled to one of the Faith in Families centres at Teilos Community Cwtch in Blaenymaes and laid out a spectacular feast for the children, with homemade curry for all followed by a tasty selection box for each child.
It was lovely to have been able to spread some joy this year to those who truly need it, but we were shocked and saddened to hear about the poverty that some children are enduring in our city. This is only getting worse as the cost of living crisis continues, and we really do encourage you to visit the Faith in Families website and donate whatever you can spare today. We saw first-hand how grateful those children were for a small act of generosity, so anything you could donate would put a huge smile on their faces, and help Faith in Families continue their fantastic, and much needed, work.
We’re so grateful that we’re in a position to support those members of our community who need it most, and we’d like to say a huge thank you to our team who pulled out all of the stops to make this possible – we couldn’t have done it without you!
Earlier that week, on Monday 11th December, we also welcomed 18 rough sleepers to our Waterfront restaurant for a delicious festive meal. We worked closely with The Wallich, Wales’ leading homelessness and rough sleeping charity, to create a safe space for vulnerable members of the community to relax and enjoy a homecooked meal.
It’s our pleasure to give back to our local community, and we’re so grateful to help two very deserving causes. We hope that these small acts of kindness help to raise awareness of the excellent and life-changing work that’s being carried out by both Faith in Families and The Wallich.
If you want to give back this Christmas, please consider the plight of the people entrenched in poverty in Swansea and donate whatever you can to Faith in Families or The Wallich.
